    EDAKKAL CAVES

    Situated close to Sulthan Bathery Wayanad. The caves history dates back to Indus Valley Civilisation. The way to the caves is by a trekking up the Ambukuthi Hill. You will be mesmerised by the lush green around, quaint landscape, the smell of coffee in the cool air.

    The cave is formed as a fissure in the rocks as of result of some natural causes. Over the spilt rocks, a large rock fell down giving it the shape of a cave. Legends have it that the cave is created by Lord Rama. He hit the rock with an arrow to make the split in the rock. Hence the name Ambukuthi (struck by Arrow).

    The cave depicts three different sets of petroglyphs dating back 7000 years old. The etchings include symbols, ancient stone scripts, figures of animals and human beings, weaponry figures etc.

  • KURUVADWEEP ISLAND

    A paradise for nature lovers and trekkers alike the Kuruvadeep boasts of a stunningly beautiful cluster of islets. The island is on the Kerala-Karnataka border along the River Kabani in Wayanad. Around 950 acres of evergreen forest offers tourists breath-taking views. Home to wildflowers and rarest Orchids the place is a safe haven for migratory birds. Hornbills and parrots are commonly seen here. Rare species of butterflies are also seen here.

    THOLPETTY AND MUTHANGA WILDLIFE SANCTUARIES

    Located on the borders of Coorg, Tholpetty and Muthanga Sanctuaries combine to form the Wayanad wildlife sanctuary. This is contiguous to the Nagarhole National Park in Karnataka forming a major part of Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Guarded by the high rise mountains of the Western Ghats, the Tholpetty boasts of a 345 sq km and with the deciduous forest cover rich in bio-diversity houses wild elephants and various other types of wildlife.

  • CHEMBRA PEAK

    This is a challenging peak to the trekkers. Standing tall at 2000 m this is the tallest peak in southern Wayanad. The bonus of trekking here is with every climb you could experience the expansive landscape of Wayanad. The view from the crest of the peak is simply breathtaking.

    BANASURA SAGAR DAM

    Located in the southwestern part of Wayanad, the Dam is the largest rammed earth dam in India. The trekking to the Banasura Peak starts from here. Islands are formed when the reservoir submerged the land around. This is a major sight to see. You can buy coffee, honey, herbal plants, tea, spices and bamboo products from here.
